The students in Ms. McCay's 2nd grade class had the opportunity to participate in First Lego League Jr.'s Mission Moon Challenge. The students worked throughout the school year to explore questions such as: What do you need to know about the Moon to live there? What will you eat and drink? How will you get energy? and more! Using the Engineering Design Process, the students designed and built a Moon Base to hold the LEGO rocket ship and demonstrated how they would solve problems related to living on the Moon. The LEGO WeDO 2.0 was used to build and program the motorized parts.
Recently, each of the teams presented their solutions to their class. Peer discussion and debate were utilized as the teams made claims and provided evidence to support. Mr. Corey Cheeks, a WHAM parent and Exxon Mobil employee, volunteered with the students each week to provide this robotics experience. Through a grant provided by Exxon Mobil and Mr. Cheeks' volunteerism, we were able to purchase the materials for this AMAZING experience!
