WHAM has such a special school community that is truly a family…or as we say, a WHAMily! Our PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) hosts two social events every school year; one in the fall and one in the spring. The fall social was held Friday night, and it was a blast! We celebrated the first birthday of our mascot, Hopper, by signing his birthday shirt, playing games, decorating cupcakes, singing, eating cake and just enjoying each other’s company! Hopper didn’t open gifts because all he wanted for his birthday was for his guests to bring donations for the Baton Rouge Food Bank. He got his wish! Three large boxes of donated items will be delivered this week, and Hopper is thrilled! Thank you to WHAM PTO and parent volunteers who made this event possible and successful! Your hard work is greatly appreciated! Also, we want to send out a thank you to the families that joined us at the fall social. We were so happy to see all of you there!

Sending out a big thanks to WHAM 5th grade families for providing a delicious lunch for teachers/staff yesterday! Everything was wonderful! We truly appreciate our families for showing us so much love and appreciation!    Congratulations to the 2024-2025 Student of the Year for Westdale Heights Academic Magnet, Angel Harrell! We are so proud of Angel’s character, her strong leadership abilities, her willingness to assist WHAM teachers and staff (and other students) without being asked, and her dedication to academic excellence. Our current WHAM families are, hands down, our best recruiters, so please pass the word along to any of your friends or family that may be interested in their child(ren) attending WHAM next school year! Thank you in advance for spreading the word about showcase events at WHAM next week!  Sending out a huge thanks to everyone who joined us for WHAM’s garden workday today! We had WHAM parents, students, and staff that came and helped out, as well as community members and volunteers! We were fortunate to have Liberty Magnet High School’s baseball team join us, as well as volunteers representing one of our community partners, CC’s Coffee House (Perkins-Southdowns Location). Along with their time and effort, our friends at CC’s also generously donated coffee, and the fixings, for the volunteers! Thank you CC’s! We are thankful for your partnership, and enjoyed having you all join us today! Also, a special shoutout to Dr. Legoria, our Science Specialist, for organizing the garden workday! WHAM wouldn't have these beautiful outdoor spaces without her vision, and without the support of our WHAM families, staff, students and volunteers! We will have another garden workday in the spring, and we hope to see you all there!
