The LSU NOBCChE (National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers) and LSU- Chemistry Graduate Student Council recently organized a “Girls Do Chemistry” event for the Louisiana Girl Scouts. Our WHAM students (Allie, Kate, Ellyse, Gianna & Lillian) we’re able to get hands on experience with chemistry experiments and toured the LSU Chemistry Department, including the NMR lab. The goal of the event was to inspire future women scientists. They participated in many experiments including making slime, using sodium alginate and calcium chloride. They also made Dipping Dots using dry ice!
