The girls worked on the World of Girls Journey (badge set), and interacted with pen pals from a different timezone. Since they started working in the spring, right around the daylight savings time switch, they had many conversations about time and thought a sundial might be a fun way to commemorate their work and enhance the school's playground.
The sundial is interactive - when the viewer stands on the correct date, his/her shadow will indicate the time. The girls began the project by orienting the sundial to true north (learning about compasses), measured and marked the concrete space, and painted the numbers on the dial themselves. They used their cookie money to pay for the paint! They hope their fellow students enjoy this project. Thank you Girl Scout Troop 10233!
